Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does it cover the whole cost of the funeral?
A: The Funeral Payment from the DWP is only a contribution towards the Funeral Bill. However in some cases where additional grants and funding could be available, it is possible to cover the whole cost.
Q: Who can apply for funding?
A: Normally the Next-of-Kin or Executor, however if there are no living relatives a close friend may apply.
Q: Is there a cost for this service?
A: No. It is totally free and confidential to the family.
Q: How long does the application process take?
A: We aim for a 2 - 4 week completion, but in some cases it may take longer. The Funeral may still go ahead prior to the application being completed.
My Mother died a few months ago, although we were aware of my Mother's wishes we were unaware of the cost of a funeral.
